Susan Woodson's first career was as a graphic designer for over 30 years. After retiring from 30 years of deadlines she went back to her first love in the arts, painting.
Picasso’s quote “you don’t paint with color, you paint with emotion” inspires her style. She is always working with design elements, line, shape, value, texture, and color incorporating those elements in the process, but her emphasis is mostly on the process of painting, never on the final picture. "Most of time I don’t have a clue what the end product will be."
Her goal is to have fun with the composition. Her subject matter is often influenced by experiences in her life at the time. Sometimes her pieces are more abstract and others may relate to more recognizable subject matter. Enjoying the process is the fun in art to her. She feels her works are more about the act of painting rather than the creation of a picture.
